What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit, such as whether you are signed in, across page loads and sessions. Local storage is a similar browser-based mechanism that stores data on your device without an expiry date unless explicitly cleared.
We keep our use of cookies minimal and purposeful. This page describes exactly what we store and why.
How Ketl uses cookies
We use cookies and local storage in two contexts: to keep you signed in securely, and to remember your interface preferences so you do not have to re-set them on every visit. We do not use cookies to track you across other websites, build an advertising profile, or share data with ad networks.
Cookies and storage we use
- Strictly necessary: session and authentication. An HttpOnly, Secure session cookie is set when you sign in. It identifies your authenticated session and is required for the service to function. Without it, you cannot access your account or run diagnoses. This cookie expires when your session ends or after a fixed inactivity period. It cannot be opted out of while using the service.
- Strictly necessary: CSRF protection. A same-site token is stored alongside your session to prevent cross-site request forgery. It is tied to your session and expires with it.
- Preferences: theme. If you switch between dark and light mode, your choice is saved in local storage under a key named
ketl-theme. No personal information is included. Clearing your browser storage removes it. - Preferences: currency display. If you select a currency on the pricing page, your preference is stored in local storage under
ketl-currencyso it persists across visits. Again, no personal information is stored. - Analytics: aggregate, privacy-respecting. With your consent, we collect aggregate usage data to understand which features are used and how the service performs. This data is not tied to an advertising ID, is not sold, and is not shared with ad networks. You can decline analytics cookies at any time and the service will continue to work fully.
What we do not do
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not place third-party cookies that follow you around the web. We do not share cookie data with data brokers or ad exchanges.
How to control cookies
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies for specific sites. Below are links to instructions for the most common browsers:
- Chrome: Settings, Privacy and security, Cookies and other site data.
- Firefox: Settings, Privacy and Security, Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Settings, Privacy, Manage Website Data.
- Edge: Settings, Cookies and site permissions.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in. Blocking or clearing preference storage means your theme and currency selections will reset to defaults on each visit. Declining analytics cookies has no effect on service functionality.
For local storage, you can clear it through your browser developer tools or your browser settings under site data.
